Mission

The Department of Archaeology in Iğdır University aims to train archaeologists who are able to make comprehensive researches on the historical remains in our country by the help of modern technology in the light of universal values. Our department’s primary missions are to provide practical and project-based education in scientific studies, to train archaeologists who are able to reveal unique cultural heritage of our country through scientific methods and to adopt an approach that respects sustainable relationships with its partners, that blends knowledge, love and respect with the historical and rich fabric of Iğdır province, and that assumes the responsibility of presenting its outputs in fields of research, education and service in support of society.

Vision

Our vision is to become and remain a department, members of which are proud of being a part of it both in national and international arena due to its innovative and sustainable nature and its administrative mentality that attaches great significance to organizational culture and aims at quality-based development; and which contributes to the advancement of our country to a position above the level of contemporary civilizations through its scientific studies.

Based on the archaeological significance of Eastern Anatolian Region, Department of Archaeology in Iğdır University was established in 2011, under the Faculty of Science and Letters in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Higher Education Law no.2547 as amended by Law no. 2880.  With its three fields of study; Prehistoric Archeology, Protohistoric and Classical Archaeology, our department comprises five academics; Prof. Dr. Bahattin Çelik (prehistory) Assist. Prof. Dr. Bilcan Gökce and Rıfat Kuvanç (Protohistory), Assist. Prof. Dr. Sinan Altun (Classical Archaeology) and Res. Assist. M.A. Nilden Ergün (Classical Archaeology).
